St. Kateri Tekakwitha, is the first native American saint. A Mohawk woman learned about the Catholic faith from Jesuit missionaries. She embraced the faith despite opposition from her tribe. Kateri became known for her deep spirituality and commitment to a life of chastity and prayer.

She is patroness of the environment. Born in what is now western New York in 1656. Her parents died of small pox in 1660. Kateri survived but her facial skin was damaged from the small pox. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was adopted by her aunt and uncle. Kateri died at age 24.

O Great Lily of the Mohawks, we ask that you take our intentions to the foot of the cross. Ask Jesus to bring healing to those who are heavily burdened. Through your intercession, may this favor be granted if it is according to the will of God. By your prayer, help us always to remain faithful to Jesus and to his Holy Church. St. Kateri Tekakwitha, pray for us. Amen.
