Mary is the Queen of Angels. The angels obey her slightest command with royal, angelic love.
A little ruined church, belonging to the Benedictines of Subasio, about a mile from Assisi and called the Portiuncula, which Saint Francis of Assisi repaired in 1207 and which had been named for Our Lady of the Angels, gave us the first feast of Our Lady under this title. It was on the feast of Our Lady, Queen of Angels, August 2, 1492, that Christopher Columbus knowing there was a plenary indulgence granted to all who received Holy Communion on that day, went with all his crew to Mass, received Holy Communion, finished packing his boat — called the Santa Maria, the Holy Mary — and set sail for the New World.
This Title and Feast is closely connected to the United States.
The close connection between the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Angels is one we see throughout her life on Earth: at the Annunciation, the Nativity of her Divine Son, her Assumption into heaven, and finally her Coronation as Queen of Angels and Men. The first invocation of her as Queen in the Litany of Loreto is as “Queen of Angels.”
Attached to each scarf is a mini Miraculous Medal. The medal design was made in 1832 with the approval of the Catholic Church after Mary had appeared to St. Catherine Laboure. The medal was quickly distributed throughout France. and blessings that Mary had promised flowed to all who wore the medal. It became referred to as "The Miraculous Medal" and is still one of the strongest devotions throughout the world in the Catholic Church, just behind the rosary.
